Introduction

Shalakyatantra is an important branch of Ayurved dealing with the diseases and treatment of Netra(Eye), Karna(Ear), Nasa(Nose), Mukha(Oral cavity) & Shira(Head). This branch is given Prime importance among the 8 branches of Ayurved. Again in this Netra roga vignyana is having utmost importance, because of vision is lost, blind man though rich cannot enjoy the world. So it is explained that “Sarvendriyanam Nayana Pradhanam”. This science uses a lots of ‘Shalaka’which means probe which justifies the name Shalakyatantra.
Ophthalmic Unit of this department has well equipped OPD and there are two refraction units. Department is a well equipped with modern tools i.e. refraction chair unit having slit lamp, slit lamp biomicroscopy, Autorefractometer, Keratometer, fundus examination by funduscopy; schiotz tonometry, A-Scanning, nasal endoscopy are functional. Oro-dental unit and first specialty clinics viz. Retina Clinic is running successfully under aegis of the department of Shalakya Tantra.

ENT unit of this department has well equipped OPD with Head mirror with illumination, Autoscope, Audiometry unit.

Oro-dental unit with well-equipped dental chair, x-ray unit and all necessary equipment and all special procedures done in this unit.

A well-equipped Eye and ENT O.T. is functional in the hospital under this department. Major surgical procedures like cataract with SICS and Phaco emulsification, chalazion, stye, cyst, pterygium, lobuloplasty, SMR, Tonsillectomy, mucocele etc. are being done. Carl-Zies operating microscope, oertli phaco machine is available in the Ophthalmic operation theatre.

To conduct practical confirmation assessment of theoretical knowledge is successfully.

To popularize the treatment of Kriyakaplas like Tarpana, Aschotana, Anjana, Bidalaka which are speciality of Netra roga treatment and Nasya, Gandoosh, Dhoomapana, Karnapoorana, shirodhara, prachana which form the basis of karna, nasa, mukha and shiroroga.
